How does HarkenAI record conversations?
HarkenAI uses your device's microphone to record audio. On iPhone, it records in the background so you can use other apps. On Mac, it captures system audio from Zoom and other meeting apps using a virtual audio driver.
Is my data secure?
Yes. All recordings are encrypted in transit and at rest. Audio is processed by Deepgram for transcription and OpenAI for insights — neither retains your data after processing. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Can I delete my recordings?
Absolutely. You can delete individual recordings or events at any time from the app. Deleted data is permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.
Do I need to tell people I'm recording?
Laws regarding recording consent vary by location. In many places, you need consent from all parties being recorded. It's your responsibility to comply with applicable laws in your jurisdiction. We recommend always informing participants.
How do I use the Apple Watch app?
The HarkenAI Watch app lets you start and stop recordings from your wrist. Simply open the Watch app and tap the record button. The recording happens on your iPhone — the Watch acts as a remote control.
How long can I record?
HarkenAI is designed to listen for long durations, separating unique conversations in real time. This makes it ideal for use across multiple back-to-back meetings or while attending an event or conference. The app is optimized to use very little power while listening, so you can record for hours without draining your battery.
What happens if no one is talking for a while?
Using proprietary algorithms, HarkenAI listens efficiently in the background over long periods of time. If no audio is detected for an extended period, iOS may halt the app. Prior to this happening, HarkenAI will attempt to send you a notification prompting you to bring the app back to the foreground so recording can continue uninterrupted.
